Shemini Atzeret
Shemini Atzeret or the Eighth Day of Assembly is the final yearly Feast of God. It occurs on the 22nd day of Tishrei immediately following the seventh and last day of the Feast of Sukkot. Since there is no eighth day of the week, nor is there an eighth day of Sukkot, this Feast of God teaches us that He will make all things new in eternity. Today it is commonly known as Simchat Torah or the day for rejoicing in the Torah. When this feast is completed each year the yearly Torah Portion reading cycle begins fresh and new all over again.
Shemini Atzeret or the Eighth Day of Assembly is the eighth and final yearly Feast of God. Shemini Atzeret occurs every year on the twenty-second day of Tishrei, the seventh month. In Leviticus 23:33-39 we learn that this final feast of God is closely related to the Feast of Sukkot which precedes it. In fact, it immediately follows the seventh and last day of the Feast of Sukkot!
