G-d’s Judgment That Restores: From Lamentation to Victory
Our G-d is a G-d of judgment.

Our G-d is a G-d of judgment. However, Scripture teaches us a crucial truth: when we are in a covenant relationship with G-d—especially those of us who belong to the New Covenant through Messiah Yeshua—His judgment should be understood primarily as discipline, not destruction.

The writer of Hebrews reminds us that the one whom G-d loves, He disciplines. G-d’s judgment is never intended to annihilate His people, but rather to bring about change. Through discipline, G-d restores order, aligns us with His will, and leads us into blessing.

This principle is clearly revealed in 1 Samuel chapter 7.

Following the corruption of Eli and the judgment that fell upon his household, G-d raised up Samuel—a judge and prophet who embodied humility, submission, and obedience. Under Samuel’s leadership, Israel was given an opportunity for restoration.

The Ark of the L-rd had remained in Kiriath-Jearim for twenty years, yet instead of joy, the people experienced lamentation. This reveals a profound truth: the presence of the Ark alone does not guarantee blessing. Obedience and worship according to the Word of G-d are essential.

Israel had failed to learn from prior judgment. They tolerated idolatry, retained foreign gods, and attempted to worship G-d while remaining spiritually compromised. As a result, they could not find joy, purpose, or the will of G-d in their lives.

Through Samuel, G-d called the people to genuine repentance: to remove foreign gods, to prepare their hearts, and to serve the L-rd alone. When the people responded in obedience—fasting, confessing sin, and submitting to godly leadership—everything changed.

Worship was restored. Prayer was re-established. Judgment was redirected.

Instead of judgment falling upon Israel, G-d turned His judgment against their enemies. Through the blood of a sacrificial lamb, G-d thundered from heaven, struck the Philistines with confusion and plague, and granted Israel victory.

Samuel then erected a stone and named it Ebenezer, declaring, “Thus far the L-rd has helped us.”

The message is clear: when G-d’s people submit to His authority, worship Him according to His truth, and walk in humility, G-d moves powerfully on their behalf. His judgment restores, His discipline produces life, and His faithfulness leads to victory.
