In this powerful expository message, Dr. Baruch Korman reminds us of a foundational truth: G-d always fulfills His Word.
When we build our lives upon Scripture, we experience His faithfulness firsthand. The story of Hannah and Elkanah in 1 Samuel 1 reveals how faith, obedience, and surrender to G-d’s will bring forth blessing and divine purpose.
Trusting in G-d’s Will
Elkanah was not a perfect man, but he was sensitive to G-d’s leading. When he spoke to his wife, he said:
“Do what is good in your eyes.”
This simple statement reflected confidence in her spiritual discernment. In Scripture, “good” is always connected to the will of G-d.
Hannah was a woman devoted to G-d’s will — she desired above all else that His purposes be fulfilled in her life and in her family. She is a model of faith for every believer: a person who lives not by personal desires, but by divine direction.
Hannah: A Portrait of Faithfulness
Hannah had vowed that if G-d granted her a son, she would dedicate him completely to the Lord. When Samuel was born, she fulfilled that vow without hesitation.
She brought him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh along with offerings of thanksgiving, acknowledging that everything G-d gives must be used for His purposes.
Her story teaches a timeless truth: what we receive from G-d must be returned to Him in obedience and gratitude.
The Spiritual Design of Marriage
The relationship between Elkanah and Hannah also teaches us that marriage is not only emotional or social — it is spiritual.
G-d created woman as a “helpmate,” a divine partner who offers wisdom, discernment, and counsel. A wise husband listens when his wife speaks under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Together, husband and wife are meant to cooperate in the purposes of G-d.
Faithfulness That Honors G-d
G-d fulfilled His promise to Hannah, and she fulfilled hers to Him.
Faithfulness begets faithfulness. When a believer lives in submission to the will of G-d, he or she will experience G-d’s power, provision, and direction.
True faith is not about using G-d to fulfill our plans, but about aligning our hearts with His perfect will.
“The Lord does not lie; what He has promised, He will surely accomplish.”
Spiritual Maturity and Surrender
Spiritual maturity means learning to say:
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”
The mature believer understands that the Christian life is not about asking G-d to bless personal ambitions, but about joining His mission in humility and faith.
When Hannah bowed down before the Lord, she expressed humility, gratitude, and total surrender. True worship is not merely an act of praise — it is the submission of one’s will to G-d.
Conclusion
The message of 1 Samuel 1 is clear: G-d is faithful, and He calls us to be faithful.
Everything we possess — our family, resources, and time — belongs to Him. The life of faith is one of daily surrender:
“Lord, what You desire, I desire.”
When we live this way, we will experience His presence, His power, and His peace in every circumstance.
