“HaShem Wants to Bless Your Children With His Presence and His Goodness”

This week’s prophetic reading begins with a statement about the difficult times that Israel has gone through; however, HaShem also makes a comforting statement concerning a wonderful change which is coming upon the people. In speaking about how HaShem is going to bless His people with fine riches in His Kingdom, G-d also reveals even a greater blessing than wealth; namely that our children are going to be taught and understand the truths concerning the L-rd,

“And all your children are taught of the L-rd and abundant peace (will be upon) your children.” Isaiah 54:13

One reads in the latter half of this verse that the great benefit of knowing HaShem and His truths is abundant peace! The question that every parent needs to ask himself is do I love my children? Before one quickly responds “Of course I do”, one must first ask himself, “Am I teaching my children to know HaShem through Messiah Yeshua and the truths of Scripture?” If you cannot answer affirmatively to these two questions, then you are not demonstrating love for your children.

This verse mentions “abundant peace” and it is most helpful to understand what is being implied by the statement. The Hebrew word for “peace” is rooted in the concept of “fulfillment”. That is to say that HaShem wants to bring a fulfillment of His will in your children’s lives. This means to bless them with His presence and His goodness. This blessing goes far beyond what human words can express and even comprehend. Yet one can be sure that the key to receiving these wonderful things is rooted in one positioning himself in HaShem’s will. This can only be done when one is responding properly to the truths of Scripture.

Abundant peace is also that inner confidence which is derived from a personal relationship with the Living G-d through His Son, that no matter what hardship or trial one faces, HaShem is sufficient. In other words, it is the peace that passes all understanding which Paul spoke of (see Philippians 4:7). The fifty-fourth chapter of Isaiah concludes with a statement about the heritage of the servants of HaShem. It is the G-d given responsibility of the parents to impart this heritage upon their children. Each parent must come to the realization that this task is the most important one that a father or mother has.
